A view on Broadway in Dixon. The two tiered gazebo in the center right of the image is the community's "Laxative Bromo-Magnesia Lythia Well." In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, "healing waters" were the rage. Resorts sprung up around "medicinal" springs. Schlicht Spring was one such spa in Pulaski County, although fishing and hunting was another draw. Some spring water was even bottled and sold afar, such as the fluid from the Magnetic Well in Lebanon. Can you imagine people buying spring water in bottles when they had wells at home?
